Looking to spice up your mealtimes? Dried herbs and spices add a ton of flavor to any meal. They are also easy to store, which means you can always have them on hand. Here are two examples of ways to incorporate dried herbs and spices into your next meal!
Example 1: Flavorful Chicken
Start with a raw chicken breast, thigh, or leg. Toss it in olive or vegetable oil. Sprinkle any of the herbs below on the chicken. Bake or grill the chicken until the internal temperature is 165° Fahrenheit. Enjoy!
Example 2: Savory and spicy beans
Looking for a delicious meatless meal? Black beans are an excellent plant-based alternative to meat. Start by either:
- Soaking dried black beans overnight
- Or, if you’re in a hurry, opt for canned black beans. Don’t forget to rinse the beans when you remove them from the can! You will rinse off some of the sodium they were packaged with.
With your beans ready to cook, add them to a stove pot to start heating them up. Add ground cumin or garlic powder (or both!) for savory beans. Add red pepper flakes if you want some heat in your beans!
